The Krewe of MER was incorporated
April 29, 1993 for the purpose of participating in Mardi
Gras celebrations in the Natchez area by its organizers:
Margaret January, Wilbur Johnson, Barbara Johnson, Charles
Groom, Bessie Bradley, Willie January, Sadie Bacon, and
Ralph Jennings. MER, is short for merriment
meaning a lively celebration,
is a volunteer
organization whose mission is to promote the Mardi Gras
spirit. Our dedicated members give generously to that end
with the planning and production of events and various
activities that assist with the operations of the Krewe.
Our members take
great pride in providing this gift which is founded deep in
the customs and traditions of our heritage. Through out the
year, MER's presence is seen throughout our community as we
host events
such as Gumbo Cook-offs, Caribbean Night, Jazz and Old Skool Night, Theme
Social, etc. Each year, the Krewe of MER reaches its
pinnacle with a grand
affair, our Annual Grand Mardi Gras Ball. In
2003, the krewe celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2003 and
took a "Trip Down the Nile."
This year's ball will be held on
February 10, 2007, beginning at 8:00 p.m. at the Natchez
Convention Center. For more information on sponsorship
or the ball, please email MER.
